What can you use the app for?

Zipments provide users with an alternative courier service option. Users can either send shipments or act as a Zipments courier. For those sending packages, the user can sign in to Zipments and create a listing for their delivery. The user can describe what needs delivered and any other specifications the courier should know. The user must also provide where the item is originating from and where it must be delivered to. The user then chooses the price they are willing to pay for the courier service. Potential couriers bid on the user’s delivery job. When the user selects a courier, the courier picks up the delivery, drops it off at the specified location then gets paid 24 hours later. Zipments holds payment for couriers for 24 hours to give the customer time to report any problems. Customers can submit reviews and ratings for couriers they use. Other users can review those ratings to decide which couriers will be the most reliable and best option for their delivery.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Zipments was created to give users a more cost effective way to make deliveries. Local businesses and individuals can hire a courier through Zipments while others can make cash as a courier for the site. The company is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The site mentions official launch in West Michigan by the end of Summer in 2011.

What are the differences to other apps?

Most courier websites feature professional companies. Zipments is one of the few that allows users to also work for the site as couriers. This opens up a whole new area for courier services. Small businesses and individual professionals can find cost effective ways to have their product delivered while others can make extra money as a courier for Zipments.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Zipments website welcomes user with a soft blue color scheme offset by hints of gold. The homepage features a short video clip to the right with the square Zipments logo in blue and white in the upper, left hand corner. The bottom of the page provides color images and maps that help the user find the various features and learn more about the application. The Zipments Mobile app utilizes a similar organization and color scheme.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the Zipments community by clicking the dark blue and white “Get Started!” button along the left hand side of the page. The user can also click one of the two gold buttons in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage to begin. The new job creation form asks for a job name, any notes about the job, item size (either envelop, package or bulky load) and a pick up address, date and time as well as a delivery location date and time. The bottom of the form allows the user to list their target price before submitting the form. Those who wish to become a courier are asked to provide an email address, first and last name, mobile phone number, zip code and Paypal details.

What does it cost to use the application?

Customers and couriers can create Zipments accounts for free. The site does not charge a subscription fee or other cost to use its service. Customers are charged a 10% Zipments fee each time they choose a courier and a delivery is completed.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Zipments is an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in making extra money as a courier. It is also an appealing alternative for small businesses that may have a tight budget but wish to offer delivery services to customers.
